ALTUS NCREIF NAREIT University Portfolio Challenge Winner - University of Chicago Booth School of Business

Congratulations to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for winning the 2016 Real Confidence University Challenge with a portfolio total return of 23.64% over the four-quarter competition!

Their investment in Mortgage REITs, both commercial and home-financing, was what worked for them to earn the $30,000 grand prize. The team consisted of Craig Foreman (Captain), Andrew Dialynas, and Michael Mazur. Joseph Pagliari was the faculty advisor and has put together a team for every University Challenge hosted by Altus Group, NCREIF, and NAREIT. More amazingly the team managed to pull out the victory without ever winning a quarterly $2,500 payout as the top public or private sector of the portfolio.

On that note, this quarter’s $2,500 winners were Utah State University (12.0%) – high public portfolio and the University of San Diego (3.5%) – best private portfolio. Over the length of the competition, payouts will be received by SIX different schools including the University of Chicago, University of Connecticut (2xs), University of San Diego (2xs), BYU (2xs), University of Miami, and Utah State University.

Great job by the University of San Diego (18.84%) in second place overall, Utah State University (18.31%) at third, followed by University of Connecticut (17.37%), and Harvard University (15.56%) to round out the top five.
